The significant expansion of automotive production in Mexico has brought about the broadening of the in-country supplier-base needed to service an increased domestic capacity for passenger vehicle production.

Japanese automotive supplier, Bridgestone, recently announced its plans to construct a facility to produce polyurethane foam automobile seats. They will be manufactured in Mexico, in the city of Celaya, Guanajuato. Bridgestone uses polyurethane for its automobile seating products due to its ability to absorb road vibration, as well as its capacity to provide optimal comfort.

Although Bridgestone currently has ten plants that labor in the production polyurethane automotive auto seating located at various points on the globe, the newly announced site will be the first such faclilty to be operational in Mexico. It’s South Central location in Celaya, Guanajuato will position the company to benefit from the formidable automotive industry growth that has occurred in that region over the past several years. It is projected that Mexico’s passenger vehicle production will exceed three million units for the first time ever in 2014.

Bridgestone management has stated that the plant will be operational by June of 2014, and that product that will be manufactured in Mexico that will be destined for the country’s passenger vehicle output will reach a total of 360,000 units per year. Bridgestone is headquartered in Kyobashi, Tokyo, Japan. The Celaya plant will be operated by Bridgestone Automotive Products de Mexico S.A. de C.V.
