Investment in Guanajuato by European companies totals 446 million dollars

During the recent 2021 Investment Attraction Tour in Europe, Guanajuato concretized agreements for projected investments estimated to be valued at more than US $446 million.  It is anticipated that the result of this investment in Guanajuato will generate approximately 5,556 direct and indirect jobs.  

Diego Sinhue Rodríguez Vallejo, governor of Guanajuato, recently traveled to various regions of the old continent with representatives of the Secretariat for Sustainable Economic Development ( SDES ). The two public officials toured Switzerland, Italy, France, Austria, Germany, and several private companies.

The governor of the State of Guanajuato made the trip to strengthen economic alliances with business leaders in the automotive, auto parts, aerospace, food processing, and innovation and technology development sectors.  These are the areas the officials are seeking to increase investment in Guanajuato through the initiation of more projects and injection of capital.

Investment in Guanajuato was the topic of discussion

During the visits to the Nestlé-Purina, ITT Motion Technologies, Pirelli, Grupo PROMA, Ferrero, Le Bélier, SAFRAN, and ZKW corporations, the Guanajuato delegation presented the competitive advantages that the state enjoys.   These include logistics infrastructure, application of the rule of law, and public policies that drive economic development. As a result, investment in Guanajuato is favorable for both new projects and the consolidation of existing production plants.

In Switzerland, the Nestlé-Purina investment announcement was confirmed. The Swiss multinational will invest US $160 million to build a production plant located in Guanajuato Puerto Interior (GPI).  The GPI is located in Silao and will be the recipient of more than 200 direct jobs. This investment in Guanajuato will enable the company to increase production from 214,000 to 285,000 tons of dry food and 12,000 to 25,000 tons of wet food.

In Italy, ITT Motion Technologies announced a project valued at approximately US $40 million. It will be the source of 450 direct and indirect jobs.  The company is the global producer of brake pads, shock absorbers, and other components for the automotive and railway market.

While with the directors of Pirelli, the company’s executives confirmed an investment in Guanajuato of 36 million dollars to increase the annual production to 7.2 million tires in its GPI plant.  This injection of this new capital will serve to generate 411 new jobs between both direct and indirect.  Additionally,  Pirelli will implement the integration of new automated machinery and other state-of-the-art processes and technologies.  

In addition, the governor of Guanajuato announced another new project for the region.  It is for the construction of a Research, Development, Innovation, and Professional Training Center.  This investment in Guanajuato is valued at US $13.5 million.

Likewise, Grupo PROMAwhich focuses on the manufacture of structures for vehicle seats, confirmed an investment of more than US $6.2 million and the creation of 265 direct and indirect jobs.  The Italian company will build a production plant in the Polígono Industrial San Miguel de Allende.  It will be the company’s second production facility in Mexico.

Also, in Italy, the Ferrero Group implemented the “Joy of Moving” Program, a methodology to promote an active lifestyle in childhood. This social strategy will support the physical and cognitive development of more than 50,000 children and the training of 600 Guanajuato teachers.  The investment budget is planned to be more than 10 million Mexican pesos.

During the visit to France with Le Bélier, company leadership confirmed an investment in Guanajuato of more than US  $101 million.  This project represents the near-term future generation of 500 new jobs and 1,000 indirect jobs.  Le Bélier will invest in the company’s production plant in San Miguel de Allende. This project will be unique at the national level since it integrates all-aluminum smelting techniques through state-of-the-art production systems.

The state government representatives visited Grupo Michelin to learn about the production processes and meet with the directors of this company, the leader in the manufacture of tires and the implementation of mobility services.

In addition, the delegation established agreements to promote future investments with SAFRAN, a leading company in the aerospace industry.  SAFRAN is ranked number one globally in the production of engines for short and medium-range aircraft.

In Austria, ZKW affirmed an investment in Guanajuato of US $103 million.  This effort will support the generation of 830 direct jobs and 1,500 indirect jobs for the production plant at GPI. Among the company’s automotive OEM clients are AUDIBMW, Volvo, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen, and General Motors.         

During the working tour through Germany, German and Guanajuato state government officials consolidated the strategic alliance between Guanajuato and Hannover Messe.  Guanajuato will work with the organization to promote innovation, Industry 4.0, and advanced manufacturing technology in the state.

This cooperation and business alliance was ratified with the participation of the Delegation of Guanajuato in a ceremony of theunveiling of the Plaque of Sister Cities between the Hannover Fairground and Poliforum León.  The event was held at the Deutsche Messe Fair

The International Automobile Exhibition entitled the “IAA Mobility” took place in Munich, Germany.  This is the city where the present and the future of the automotive industry are located. In this same event, the Governor of Guanajuato participated in the “Panel for Sustainable Development and Professional Training in the Automotive Sector.”  During this session, he confirmed that investment in Guanajuato is on the right path due to its steady development and sustained growth.
